social justice at South Church

At South Church, we try to embody God’s call to radical hospitality and justice by hands-on work in many different types of settings.

Depending on the day or season, you may find us: sharing a dinner and conversation with immigrants who are learning English; gathering Christmas presents or making Easter baskets for poor children in Yonkers; sharing soup and conversation with the unsheltered poor of New York City as we take a turn on the Midnight Run; fighting for justice (both in our denomination and in our world) who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender; raising funds for a day camp for Yonkers children at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast; corresponding with inmates at Sing Sing and other prisons; supporting legislation for fair labor practices for farm workers.

Check the calendar for the specific projects we’re involved in this season.

We welcome your participation in our efforts. Contact the office for more information.
