Midnight Run Sandwich Making and Picnic August 28th!

Categories: Events,Serving

This Sunday, August 28th , from 2 PM til 4:30, in Van Cortlandt Park (Indian Field) is the Annual Midnight Run Picnic and softball game with some of our homeless friends from the city and some of the volunteers from churches, synagogues and schools in Westchester.  You can participate in two ways: first, remain at church for about 30 minutes after next Sunday’s Service and help prepare sandwiches in our kitchen (a great way to catch up or get to know new folks here at South). Dale Williams provides all the sandwich makings and we assemble the sandwiches.

Secondly, come down to Indian Fields at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday for all or part of the picnic (anywhere from 2:00 until 4:30). In addition to sandwiches, volunteers bring all the traditional picnic foods. So come meet the folks involved in MR.

Directions to Indian Field at Van Cortlandt Park: Indian Field is just off the Deegan, south of Yonkers Raceway. If coming south on I-87, take E. 233rd exit. At light turn left onto 233rd, then first left onto Van Cortlandt Park East and look for parking. (The park runs along side a residential area and parking is easy).[Google Maps]

Everyone is welcome – volunteers, kids, spouses. It is a great opportunity to meet with our homeless friends in a relaxed atmosphere. We encourage every group to send representatives. Join us, it’s a fun way to just socialize with our homeless friends! Just come, and if you can bring some food, great – chips, desserts or cookies, fried chicken, salad…)
Also, Dale could use a second van driver that day to meet folks at the train station and transport them to the park. Anyone with experience driving a van, please consider volunteering for this.
